Brela is a small village in middle Dalmatia with 1.771 inhabitants (2001). It lies at the Croatian coast, approximately 15 km northwest from the city Makarska.

Brela is a known tourist place between the mountain Biokovo and the Adriatic sea. It became known through the sinonim "pearl of the Riviera from Dalmatia", next to the name for Dubrovnik, "pearl of the meditterian sea." in 1968, the place got an award for its commitment to the tourism (masters of the Adriatic). Landmark of the city is the Brela Stone after which is beach 'Punta Rata'.

In Brela woods and beaches are bathed in brilliant sunshine. The breeze brings the smell of the sea and the odour of aromatic herbs is felt in the air. Seagulls cries are mixed with singing of birds. In 1968 Brela was crowned as "Champion of Jadran " for high achievements in tourist activity. The place is situated by the sea shore, between Biokovo mountain and the island of Brac. Brela is unique in its beauty with marvellous beaches, pine woods, crystal blue sea, Mediterranean climate, sport grounds, marina, ecological surrounding and relaxing peace, top quality service in luxury hotels and private accommodation. All guarantees unforgettable holidays.

Even though Brela is rather densely populated with tourists in the season (mainly German, Czech, Italian and Polish), it maintains a relaxed atmosphere and remains a place for famalies rather than the young party crowd. The beach is pebble and the water crystal clear, which is due to the filtration provided by the sheer mountains lying as the backdrop to the village.

2003, the beach Punta Rata was elected by the American magazine Forbes to one of the 10 the most beautifully world-wide (at place 6 and with it most beautiful European beach).
